As promised, I am giving you a super quick and awesomely tasty weeknight meal. I’m really excited – it’s not often that a new recipe meets my criteria for a working cook’s dinner (see criteria here).
So, who knew that sheet pan meals are a thing? I’m embarrassed to say that until I added this to my Pinterest, and then got a hundred suggested sheet pan pins, I didn’t.
I saw this recipe on the Betty Crocker website, and I was skeptical. Bake for 20 minutes and it’s done? But I tried it, and it was done, and I totally loved it (as did my family).
One of the tricks to making this quick and tasty is to use store-bought salad dressing to season the broccoli. I’m always in favor of making marinades from scratch, but it does save you time. My grocery store didn’t have the brand/type that was in the original recipe, so I chose another one – since it was a sesame dressing, I read the ingredients and chose the one with the most sesame oil. I’m sure that you could make your own if you wanted to. The key ingredients are: soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, vegetable oil, and garlic.
After tossing the broccoli with the dressing, you make a quick mixture of soy sauce, garlic, and brown sugar and toss and coat your steak.
Spread it all out onto a large sheet pan, and bake in a 450 degree oven.
Broccoli is one of the vegetables that all of my family will eat. I cook broccoli at least 1x a week. It gets a little boring. I love that this gives broccoli a new twist. Also, I don’t usually cook steak in the winter. I only like cooking steak on the grill – less time, less mess, and it usually tastes the best. So, I am thrilled to have a new way to include steak.
I served this with white rice (start your rice cooking before you put this together, and it will all be done at the same time). Done!
